New Research: Literacy Buddies™ in Review 2011In 2011 Ardoch facilitated 44 Literacy Buddies™ programs between schools and local business/corporate organisations. Participants exchange approximately eight handwritten letters over the course of the school year, with the Big and Little Buddies also meeting face to face at least twice over that time. We surveyed Literacy Buddies™ program participants; students, teachers and corporate volunteers, to gather their feedback about how the program is meeting its objectives. The objectives are to: Increase and enhance the literacy skills of students Provide an avenue for relationships to develop between positive, working adult role models and students; Provide examples for students of real life pathways from school to study/work; Encourage development of social, communication and life skills that will enhance self-esteem and confidence in students, and Provide team-based volunteer opportunities to corporate partners to connect and support their local community.
Feedback shows that the program meets these objectives and does much more! Making A Difference AwardThis year, we awarded Ardoch's first ever Making A Difference Award, named in honor of Ardoch's Founder, Kathy Hilton and her efforts in making a difference in the community. 42 students from a number of Ardoch's partner schools received the award, which aims to inspire community minded students to make a difference in their world. Each award winner is given $50 to make a difference in their community. To showcase all the amazing work the students have undertaken throughout the year, Ardoch has put together an e-book which highlights some of the truly inspirational projects the students have implemented in their communities. |
